Daniel Bigger / Thibodaux, Louisiana
Q.) What is your name/stage name?
A.) My name is Daniel Bigger. I usually operate with that, though sometimes under the name DJ Bean.
Q.) Where are you from?
A.) Way down south in Thibodaux, Louisiana. About an hour south of New Orleans and Baton Rouge. I grew up poor with a single mother until I was about 7 when we moved to the suburbs. I was very influenced by my family growing up, especially my older sister.
Q.) What do you do?
A.) I mainly go to school and Ima freshman at Nicholls State University and a stocker at a local supermarket. I also make beats and rap on em. I play bass a lot and like to incorporate bass into my music creatively.
Q.) How long have you been making music?
A.) I bought a ukulele when I was 16, then soon a guitar and a bass. I began playing bass alot when I turned 18 in June, and since then I’ve released 2 albums and have more in the works. So I guess somewhere between 6 months and 2 years.
Q.) Who’s your biggest inspiration?
A.) My favorite rapper is Spose. I’ve been listening to him since I was 11 and he has never left my playlists. He pioneered suburban rap no matter who got more famous from it. Also heavily influenced by Wax and Herbal T, who had me feeling funk since I was 7.
Q.) What genre of music do you create?
A.) Hip Hop mixed with whatever I can mix it with.
Q.) What was it like working with (collabs?)
A.) I’ve only ever done a few collabs. I’ve worked with my boy THREAT who I’ve known and been friends with since a baby. Obviously working with him was easy and a blast. Besides that I have a few tracks dropping soon with beats from my boy E.D.D.I.E. out in California. Been a great process with him also.
Q.) Who’s one person, dead or alive, that you’d want to work with?
A.) My all-time favorite band is Sublime and I would love to work with Bud Gaugh on a song. My bass playing is heavily inspired by his and I think the insights I would gain would be incomparable.
Q.)Are you signed to a label?
A.) I am not. I make and put out all of my music by myself from my bedroom in a rent house I pay for myself.
Q.) Who are your biggest supporters?
A.) My mom and my sister. No matter what I do they always have my back. My father left at a young age and they had to pick up the pieces. They always saw what I wanted to do and fully supported it no matter what their own thoughts were, which is all you can really ask for.
Q.) What are you currently working on?
A.) I am releasing an EP this December called “The A.I. Generated Mind of DJ Bean”. Alot of experimental stuff and branching into different genres of rap and hip hop.
Q.) What is your latest release?
A.) I released my second album “Monochrome Rabbitholes” on December 1st. A lot of variation in tracks, everything made in my room between 40 hour work weeks and full time college. Loved every minute I spent making it.
