What is your name/stage name?
I use my real name Jonah Manzano as it’s easier for my audience to remember rather than having a stage name. I don’t plan on changing it.
Where are you from?
I was born in the Philippines and migrated in Sydney, Australia in the year 2002 along with my parents and two siblings.
What do you do?
I’m a singer-song writer, musician, producer. After I lost my job in Travel and Tourism that I served for almost 13 years, I decided to become an independent artist. I thought about this years ago but did not know where to start. I joined a band before but that did not last long and there were too many conflicts. Becoming an independent artist is the best as you hold your own time while working from home
How long have you been making music?
Well, the thing about music is I was already actively singing since I was about 7 years old and that’s when I started playing the piano. At the age of 13 when I was in high school, I started to play the guitar followed by bass guitar and drums. In terms of making music this only started when I migrated in Sydney, Australia. But then from there the experience of being in the band was not the time I started making my own music. A lot of experiments were on the line, like what microphone to use, what software to use. This took me a while to learn. I then attended an audio engineering class in Sydney where I had an idea how to make music at home eventually.
Who’s your biggest inspiration?
My family is always my number one inspiration in life. I am very grateful to have them in my life. Through bad times and good times. I was not very good at handling my own money where I just splurged it all to party. I learnt that as you grow older you intend to see life differently and you appreciate the small things.
What genre of music do you create?
I am more into pop, acoustic cover music. Most of the songs I have written are pop songs. I do like to experiment as when you are a performer you need to be able to know all kinds of genre in music industry.
What was it like working with (collabs?)
When the pandemic started in 2020. I have thought about doing collabs with different people around the globe. The song “Heal the World’ was the one that got into to me. I created the whole song in different style from scratch. I have then contacted most of my friends that could sing, edit the video, syncing audio and final process in Final Cut and Logic pro. It was a long process as there were about 25 people involved in the video project. It wasn’t an easy task especially when some of them I have never met in person.
What are some features you have?
We are all unique and being that person a truly unique I would say the features would be having a multi skills able to play different musical instruments, like guitar, piano, drums, and bass. In terms of physical trait as I was born in the Philippines, I am grateful and still do not forget where I come from. Having to speak my own original language and English is a great tool of communication. I work hard, slow, and steady.
What are some features you want to get?
It is interesting that everyone wants to get what other people have that we don’t have. It would be great to have a longer hair, believe it or not! That would be awesome like a rockstar.
Who’s one person, dead or alive, that you’d want to work with?
The pop Canadian band called The Moffatts who were popular during my high school time, they’re the ones that gave me inspiration to start learning more musical instruments. This pop duo started their journey called Music Travel Love consist of two members Bob and Clint. They’re the ones I would love to work with or even see in person.
Are you signed to a label?
At this stage, I am not signed to any label. I do enjoy performing on festivals, wedding events, and make music at home while I have my full-time job working from home.
Do you want a record deal, a distribution deal, or none?
This would be a life changing, to be honest I have never sent any of my music demos to anyone. I rely mostly on social media and word of mouth these days. It would also depend on the contract for both parties that can benefit for all.
Who are your biggest supporters?
My family, they’re everything to me. My wife, son, and daughter who I love the most!
Where did your name come from?
It’s no surprise my name is from the bible book of Jonah.
What are you currently working on?
I have one unreleased song that I am working on now. Last song released was on February 14, 2022, which is titled “Marry You Again”
What is your latest release?
Marry You Again is a song that I’ve written and produced that was first released in the public during Valentine’s Day February 14, 2022.
When is your next release?
I am still working on my new song, lyrics are finished and even music is produced. Just need to finish a music festival then I should be able to focus on it soon.
