Where are you from?
Originally? I’m from Portland, OR, but grew up in Amite, LA. If you don’t know where that is, think Devonta Smith. Small town. Good people. I’m actually really close to some of his family.
When did you start making music?
It’s hard to put a finger on that. Wrote my first verses around age 8. Even before that I was changing the lyrics to gospel songs because I thought mine made more sense. Lyrics have always been thing for me.
Who inspires you the most?
My mom for sure. Just the perseverance on her end. Saw her go through a lot. Even when I didn’t understand what she was going through. She always kept it solid. Beautiful, amazing woman.
What got you into making music?
Aight, so my mom, again. She was the dance instructor at a local high school. That placed me around the band at least once a week at a really young age. I think that’s what really did it for me. Spending time with my mom and something she loved. Finding something I can love that was related to that.
Who is your favorite producer?
That’s tough. I want to say Clams Casino, Metro Boomin, or somebody more known. Right now, it’s my guy Waj. FBG Waj for sure. Y’all sleep on him, but dude really got it. Me and DUMP! been overdue for some years too. I really don’t have a favorite. Super tough question.
What is one of your best songs/beats?
Probably, something I haven’t released yet. Maybe. I make a lot of songs. It’s hard for me to say which one of my songs is better than the other.
Are you signed to a record label?
Nope. Not at all.
Who would you most likely collaborate with?
Collaboration is major. The vibes have to be right. Feels like if things feel right, then we can work together. That’s all I can say about that.
Who are some artists that you have done shows with?
There are literally so many. If you know Louisiana’s underground scene then you should know about P3RK, Flighteous, Khalil Vegas, and Michael Armstead. Those are just few that I performed with. Know what? There was time when Flighteous and one of my producers, Jæk, invited me to an event. Turned out to be a jam session with Irving Mayfield Jr. and his band. It was fire. They gave me mic and I spit a quick 8 bar. Well, I think it was 8 bars [laughs].
What’s next for you?
More work. Anything that comes my way will be result of the work I put in.
What is your most popular track?
I know this sounds irresponsible for an independent artist, but I don’t keep up with what tracks are popular or which ones aren’t. It’s kind of hard to pay attention to that when you create at high frequency.
What are some things you have been through in real life?
I could write a book. I won’t, but I could. Just know it’s real.
What’s your biggest accomplishment ?
I’m not sure. I’ve been published, selected as a resident artist at The Material Institute (The Embassy Studio of New Orleans), gotten beats from a Grammy winner, beats from Billboard charters, being paid for an interview… the list goes on. No where near the type of success I wish to achieve, but one of those are possibly my biggest. Unless I forgot something. Check me out tho! I freestyled a few EPs. Definitely worth checking.
