M.Smash, born Steven Felicinao, is an artist, producer, and guitarist whose passion for music runs deep in his veins. Hailing from Puerto Rico, he was surrounded by musical influence from a young age, with his mother, grandfather, and uncle all being talented guitar players. Yet, it wasn’t until he was 12 years old that he truly began his journey into the world of music. “I remember coming home from school and seeing a B.C. Rich Warlock guitar sitting in my bed. I was a little scared to play it, but once I plugged it in, I was hooked. I knew it was my calling.”
M.Smash’s early love for music didn’t stop at playing guitar. As he grew older, his interests expanded into different genres, from heavy metal and rock to hip-hop and pop, drawing influences from video games like Final Fantasy. This blend of diverse sounds has shaped the unique style he brings to his production today, making him a versatile creator who is comfortable in a variety of musical spaces. His sound continues to evolve, from heavy metal-inspired tracks to drill beats and orchestral compositions, allowing him to create music that resonates with listeners across genres.
After stepping into full-time production, M.Smash quickly made a name for himself, securing placements with local and more prominent artists. His connection to his audience is a key factor in his success, as he thrives on interacting with fans through social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram. “I remember going live on Facebook and making beats in front of my audience. I’d let them decide what to add next, making them a part of the creative process. That was really special, and it’s something I continue to do today.”
While M.Smash has had a rewarding journey, the road hasn’t always been smooth. There have been times of self-doubt and moments of feeling discouraged. “One of the biggest challenges I faced was just getting my beats out there. It’s easy to feel like you’re not doing enough, but consistency is key. I’ve learned to keep my head up, stay positive, and keep pushing forward.”
The hardest part, though, has been balancing his work for other artists with his own personal music. “A lot of my solo work is therapy for me—it’s my private space. But who knows? Maybe one day I’ll drop something soon,” he hints with a smile.
From his humble beginnings to now, M.Smash’s work ethic, passion, and drive have made him a respected name in the production world. His connection to both his fans and fellow musicians speaks volumes about his commitment to the craft. So whether he’s creating beats for others, jamming with his band ReaLation, or just sharing his music-making process with his fans, one thing is certain: M.Smash is here to stay, and he’s only getting started.
