Born and raised in Nigeria, Watife has always viewed music as an escape—a powerful outlet for self-expression. For the past three years, he’s been blending Afrobeats with Western influences to create an entirely unique sound. Though still a student, Watife is making waves in the music world, driven by his passion for storytelling and his thirst for personal growth.
His journey started with the release of his freestyle “Bounce,” followed by his debut project KOV (King of Vibes). This storytelling album, which navigates the journey of reclaiming personal power, set the stage for what’s to come. “Life is my biggest inspiration,” Watife reveals. “I’m constantly looking for something to spark my creativity, whether it’s an experience, a conversation, or just a thought that hits me.” He also draws inspiration from his mother’s work ethic and faith, as well as his connection with the Holy Spirit.
Watife’s genre of choice is Afrofusion—a smooth blend of Afrobeats and Western-style music, which speaks to his roots while embracing global sounds. He’s already building a reputation with collaborations from artists like Ras Austin of Coast Contra, Tony Montana, Slumfairy, and Mekks. His upcoming track, “Forgiveness,” set to drop on January 31st, 2025, features Ras Austin, and it’s already creating a buzz in the music world.
Though independent and unsigned, Watife is open to future opportunities. “I want to be like a kid in a candy store—if the right deal comes, I’ll entertain it,” he says, hinting at his desire for a partnership that supports his artistic growth. His biggest supporters? His friends, family, and, of course, himself. The relentless self-belief is evident as he continues to hone his craft, write his own material, and even conceptualize his own music videos.
Outside of music, Watife’s taste is diverse. He enjoys Lofi beats, Afrobeats, hip-hop, jazz, and even gospel—genres that reflect his multifaceted approach to life and art. “My favorite part of making music is creating a feeling—a space where people can vibe, reflect, or just let loose,” he shares. His latest release, Love x War, a deluxe EP, is just a taste of the bigger picture: his forthcoming album, Chill Out, promises to take listeners on yet another journey into his evolving sound.
As he looks toward the future, Watife sees himself touring across Europe, playing to crowds larger than the 100+ fans he’s performed for so far. He dreams of sharing the stage with artists like Asake, whose energy and artistry align with his own. With his sights set on bigger stages and global recognition, Watife is ready to make an impact in the next five years—and beyond.
