Kalab King, the South Carolina native with a heart full of raw emotion and a pen ready to deliver, is carving out a space for himself in the world of hip-hop. Growing up in the USA, music has always been an integral part of his life. “I’ve dreamed of doing this since I was a kid,” Kalab shares when asked what sparked his passion for music. It’s clear that this dream has been a constant companion throughout his journey.
Kalab’s sound draws from heavy influences like Eminem, Hopsin, and Joyner Lucas. However, it’s more than just lyrical prowess that defines him—it’s the deep, therapeutic platform he’s built to express his frustrations, traumas, and emotions. “The concept is to vent and process my emotions through music,” he explains. His style doesn’t just resonate with fans; it gives them a voice. The struggles of his past, the wrongs done to him, and his overwhelming sense of frustration with the world around him are all channeled into his craft, offering solace to anyone feeling similarly isolated.
His musical path has seen him take on impressive challenges, like placing 12th in Tech N9ne’s Win A Feature contest. Additionally, Kalab’s opened for renowned artists such as Jelly Roll and Haystak—experiences that have no doubt shaped his artistry and determination. Despite not yet receiving the accolades he dreams of, Kalab remains relentlessly motivated by the support from his fans. “People keep telling me not to stop,” he says, citing the encouragement from others as one of his main driving forces.
Kalab’s road to success has not been easy. After a traumatic personal loss—his sister’s suicide—he channeled his grief into his music, and taught himself everything he knows about music theory and production. “I’ve been completely independent this whole time,” he says. Yet his struggles didn’t end there. After a near-death experience in a car crash, Kalab faced a long recovery, including a serious brain injury. But even through the most challenging of times, he didn’t give up. “It’s been a rough climb back, but I keep pushing because I’ve got a lot to say.”
Kalab is now focusing on expanding his presence, with a new single in the works titled Better Late Than Never, set to drop soon. “I’ve got several things in the works,” he teases, leaving fans eagerly awaiting what’s next.
