Boosie Badazz is set for federal sentencing on January 9 for a gun possession conviction, with prosecutors seeking two years in prison plus three years of supervised release. Despite the recommendation, the Baton Rouge rapper remains defiant, confident he can avoid incarceration.
The charges stem from a June 2023 arrest in San Diego, where police discovered a firearm during a traffic stop. Boosie, a convicted felon, pleaded guilty in August 2025 to one count as part of a plea deal that dismissed a second charge. State-level charges related to the incident were dropped in 2024, but federal authorities continued prosecution.
Boosie’s attorney, Meghan Blanco, is asking the court for probation instead of prison. Speaking on The Breakfast Club, Boosie expressed unwavering confidence about his outcome:
“I’m confident like a muthafucka. I ain’t going to jail… It’s still up to the judge. It’s up to God, but it’s up to the judge. People saying, ‘He gotta do two years.’ That’s not a fact of this case,” he said.
To bolster his chances, Boosie has hired Washington, D.C. lobbying firm J.M. Burkman & Associates to petition former President Donald Trump for a presidential pardon. The rapper also publicly appealed to Trump on X (formerly Twitter), citing what he claims are unique circumstances in his case.
Trump has a history of granting clemency to hip-hop artists. During his final hours in office in January 2021, he fully pardoned Lil Wayne for federal gun charges and commuted the sentences of Kodak Black and NBA YoungBoy—cases involving similar felony gun violations. Boosie’s team is clearly hoping his situation will follow the same precedent.
As the January 9 sentencing approaches, all eyes will be on the federal judge and whether a pardon could change the outcome for the 42-year-old rapper.
