K-So Tsunami, also known as Special K and DJ SpecialK, is an artist from Montgomery, Alabama who has many talents – he produces, DJs, plays the bass, raps, directs, engineers, does photography and graphic design, and sound engineering for live events. He started making beats at the young age of four and began rapping seriously in 2016. K-So Tsunami’s music career started in elementary school doing theater, in high school he played in a band called Muziqlly Speaqing and then was in the Alabama State Jazz Band. When he was in college he took advantage of his recording tech major and started making a lot of music since his classes were literal recording studios.
His goals within the music industry include stage diving, bringing major artists to Montgomery to showcase the city’s talent, and working with some of the best artists in the game. He also wants to contribute to the sound of the world through scoring movies, video game soundtracks, and executive producing – he also loves performing live.
One accomplishment K-So Tsunami is particularly proud of is The Fleet Sessions, a series of 8-hour lock-ins for recording music that he put together. The pandemic and having to drop out of school have been two of the hardest obstacles K-So Tsunami has had to overcome.
K-So Tsunami’s biggest musical inspirations include A$AP Rocky, Monte Booker, Toro y Moi, PARTYNEXTDOOR, Carti, KEY!, The Alchemist, and many more. His biggest non-musical inspiration is his soccer coach, Coach Rose, who helped him realize he can’t be okay with just being okay, and that he has to go get what he wants. He also named another inspiration of “all of my colleagues in the art world here, they really make it easy to exist in this space so thank y’all”.
K-So Tsunami is currently independent and not signed to a label. He wants his listeners to take away from his music the feeling of being in an otherworldly, ethereal space that can be experienced differently by everyone, with replay value and the ability to be enjoyed as background music. He is currently working on a project called YaHemi, which is set to release in the beginning of 2023, he is also dropping a beat tape at the end of 2022 and a flip/sample tape on Soundcloud, Bandcamp and YouTube in the middle of 2023. K-So signed off by saying “spread love, drink your water, and make it happen. Bless.” We love his vibe, and you will too! Be sure to follow him on Instagram, Spotify and YouTube to check out his sound and accomplishments.
