Mo Baig On True Representation Of Gen Z In Music

Every generation has a music genre that defines it.

The Silent Generation loved big band and swing. Baby Boomers rocked to Rock and Soul. Generation X were inspired by hip hop and grunge. Millennials love R&B and every kind of pop, from techno-pop to KPOP.

Now, it’s time for Generation Z.

The question is: What music defines their generation?

Some members of Gen Z are into rap, R&B, pop, and dance. Others listen to the likes of Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, and Billie Eilish.

But for Gen Z musician Mo Baig, he doesn’t think it’s that easy to define the music taste of his generation. After all, Gen Z-ers are familiar and comfortable with diversity. They can’t be defined by just one, or even three, music genres. Their tastes in music, fashion, and design cannot be boxed into one category. And they’re not really into labels.

Living in the Big Apple his entire life, Mo Baig has been exposed to a wide range of musical influences. While he is partial to show tunes, and just Broadway in general, Mo says he likes most kinds of music and wants to explore each and every genre in his career.

To properly represent the music of his generation, Mo Baigdoes not want to be caged by any music label or genre. He plans to do pop, write raps, and compose ballads.

When it comes to making music, Mo Baig is guided by the words of Maria von Trapp of the Trapp Family Singers:

“Music acts like a magic key, to which the most tightly closed heart opens.”

And that’s his only aim when making music. Mo wants to make any kind of music that would serve as an inspiration to his generation to act, to love, and to continue living the life they want. Mo wants to speak for his generation through his lyrics. And he’s planning to do so for the rest of his life.
