Music has been part of humanity since ancient times. Egypt’s Old Kingdom depicts musical instruments in tomb paintings dated 2575-2134 BC. Music evolved from oral traditions to written notations in classical civilizations such as Persia, China, Greece, and Rome. It was just as much a part of day-to-day life then as it is now.
Whether it is for entertainment, religious services, or celebrating significant events, Mohammed Aldandan believes music has a major role in the human experience. What would a wedding be without the bride walking down the aisle to a carefully chosen track? And graduation without “Pomp and Circumstance” is difficult to imagine.
Mohammed Aldandan points out that music isn’t just for audiences. It is a sense of artistic expression for musicians. Beethoven shared scores of secrets without saying a word. His beautiful yet heartbreaking compositions told the story of a torrid affair with someone whose identity is a mystery to this day. Blues singers used their soulful craft to communicate their struggles with eager audiences, while today’s rock stars give us a look into their lives as they belt out uninhibited lyrics.
Music can become an anthem for a person, place, or thing. It brings new life to visual media and is a powerful advertising tactic, especially when the song matches the product. Examples are the Gap commercial featuring Madonna’s “Dress You Up” and Steppenwolf’s “Born to be Wild” playing as a driver takes a road trip in a Mercedes Roadster. The music creates an influential association that sticks with consumers.
At a basic level, humans enjoy things that make them happy or generate a pleasant experience. Music is one of those things and has been part of humanity since the dawn of civilization. It expresses emotions, speaks to us, and is the ultimate artistic outlet for those in the industry. Music celebrates diversity, culture, and life itself to such an extent that Mohammed Aldandan cannot fathom a world without it.
