“Hip Hop Icons Unite: Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff Shine”

In a spectacular celebration of the genre’s rich history, hip hop luminaries Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff are set to dazzle audiences during the upcoming “A Grammy Salute to 50 Years of Hip Hop” special. The event, slated to stream on CBS and Paramount+ at 8:30 p.m. ET/ 8 p.m. PT, promises a two-hour journey through the evolution of hip hop, from its early days to the trailblazers of today.
LL Cool J, one of the architects of the hip hop movement, expressed his excitement about the tribute, emphasizing the goal of elevating and celebrating the culture. “I just wanted to take a step back and bring these artists to the forefront, give them their moment to shine,” he shared in an interview with Entertainment Tonight.
The special, recorded in November, marks the first time the dynamic duo, Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff, will perform some of their groundbreaking records, contributing to hip hop’s undeniable influence on mainstream music. Initially invited to participate in the Grammys tribute in February, Smith’s commitments to filming the fourth installment of Bad Boys prevented his involvement. However, he expressed his enthusiasm on Instagram, thanking LL Cool J, DJ Jazzy Jeff, and Questlove for making the experience unforgettable.
The star-studded lineup includes iconic figures such as 2 Chainz, Akon, Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, and many others who have significantly shaped the hip hop landscape. LL Cool J promised fans a nostalgic experience, stating, “A lot of people are going to rediscover a lot of music that they fell in love with many years ago.”
Prepare for a night of electrifying performances as the Grammy stage transforms into a time capsule of hip hop’s evolution, with Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff leading the charge.
