In a shocking turn of events, Atlanta rapper YFN Lucci, born Rayshawn Bennett, is set to spend the next 10 years behind bars following his guilty plea in the RICO case against his YFN collective. The 32-year-old artist, known for hits like “Everyday We Lit,” faced a potential life sentence for charges including murder.
Lucci’s sentencing, reduced from 20 years due to a plea deal, stems from a 105-count racketeering indictment against his YFN collective, accused of being a faction of the Bloods gang. The case, filed while Lucci was out on bond, included charges ranging from racketeering to violating Georgia’s anti-gang law.
In a surprising move, Lucci apologized to the murder victim’s family, as well as his own, before receiving his sentence. The rapper, implicated in a December 2020 shooting that claimed a life, was portrayed as the driver during the trial, with prosecutors emphasizing that he didn’t fire the deadly shots.
The plea deal comes with a silver lining for Lucci, who will receive credit for time served since surrendering to authorities in January 2021. Upon release, he faces 10 years of probation, and the State has agreed not to object to an early release, submitting a letter to the pardon and parole board.
This legal saga has left the Atlanta hip-hop community in shock, raising questions about the impact on YFN’s collective and the city’s music scene. As fans digest this news, the future of YFN Lucci’s career remains uncertain, marking a significant chapter in the rapper’s tumultuous journey.
