It seems Freddie Gibbs wasn’t too impressed with J. Cole’s latest release.
On Thursday (February 20), Cole premiered his new song “cLOUDs” on his Algorithm blog, with lyrics that boast about his impact on rap:
“I charter unseen territories in order/ To push it farther than you n-ggas had ever thought of/ I caught a lotta murder charges, turned artists/ To martyrs.”
Shortly after the song’s release, Gibbs posted a single yawn emoji on X. He then took his criticism further on Instagram via his burner account, writing:
“N-ggaz be rapping about how they kill rappers and kill they careers and blah blah blah but he backing outta rap beefs.”
Though he didn’t specify, fans believe Gibbs was referring to Cole not fully engaging in the rumored Kendrick Lamar feud.
Gibbs has shown Cole love in the past—back in 2020, he praised Cole’s RS-Dreamer sneakers and even dunked while wearing them.
Meanwhile, Gibbs also called out Drake and PARTYNEXTDOOR for allegedly copying his style with their new project $ome $exy $ongs 4 U, noting its similarities to his $oul $old $eparately branding.723
