San Bernardino, CA — Known for crafting some of hip-hop’s most gritty, soulful beats, The Alchemist recently shared his perspective on the violence in Gaza—and why he doesn’t feel compelled to turn his platform into a political megaphone. The conversation came during a sit-down with Rolling Stone’s Andre Gee, where he reflected on a scene from one of his documentaries featuring graffiti reading “Free Palestine. Fck The Police.”*
“Never really was that type of artist,” Alchemist explained. “That was never part of my thing. I think everybody who’s suffering injustice should be free across the entire planet… Free Palestine, Free Congo. There’s so many we could list. Any place where there’s injustice. [There’s] a lot of messed up stuff across the world. And I don’t stand for none of that.”
He went on to clarify why he tends to avoid diving into politically charged topics. “There’s a lot of confusion and misinformation about these things. That’s why I stay away from it. People try to force you to take sides, but I’m not really into that. My focus has always been on love, peace, family, music, creativity, and art.”
Alchemist’s words reflect a mindset that many artists grapple with: balancing social awareness with personal creative focus. Born Jewish, he emphasizes that his heritage shapes his values, but not in a way that steers him toward activism. “I try to put something good out there,” he says, “and stick to what I’ve always stood for.”
Alfredo 2 and Future Collabs
The interview also highlighted his work with Freddie Gibbs on Alfredo 2, the sequel to their 2020 hit. Released on July 25, the album marks their third full-length collaboration, following 2018’s Fetti. Gibbs hinted that fans can expect more music down the line, teasing deluxe editions and additional projects. “We still got more to do,” Gibbs said. “We gonna ride this motherf*cker out.”
For hip-hop fans, it’s a reminder that while the world outside can be messy, Alchemist and Gibbs continue to deliver that signature sound and creative energy we all crave.
