Charlamagne Tha God is once again putting Drake under the microscope, suggesting that the Toronto superstar has reached a point where he’s releasing plenty of music but isn’t connecting with listeners in the same way he once did. The radio personality made the argument during a recent episode of The Brilliant Idiots podcast alongside co-host Andrew Schulz.
The conversation centered on artists getting older and how long they remain active in the rap game. While discussing JAY-Z’s decision to step back from regularly releasing music, producer Taylor Hayes pointed out that Drake has continued dropping projects despite being significantly younger than Hov.
Charlamagne pushed back, arguing that Drake has “kind of stopped making music.” The comment immediately caught Schulz and Hayes off guard, especially considering Drake released three albums this year as part of his ICEMAN trilogy, along with a deluxe edition of one of the projects.
To defend his point, Charlamagne challenged the others to name three songs from Drake’s recent releases. Hayes mentioned “Janice STFU” and “GIMME A HUG,” while Schulz brought up “Shabang.” The exchange turned into a debate over whether Drake’s constant output automatically translates into meaningful cultural impact.
Interestingly, Charlamagne’s argument also led to a broader point about how artists should measure success. He acknowledged that what ultimately matters is whether musicians connect with the fans who support them. By that standard, an artist doesn’t necessarily need widespread recognition for every new release to maintain a successful career.
Still, the comments are likely to spark another round of debate among Drake’s supporters and critics. The rapper remains one of the industry’s most commercially successful artists, but his recent releases continue to generate conversations about his place in hip-hop following his highly publicized feud with Kendrick Lamar.
Charlamagne has never been shy about criticizing Drake, and this latest take gives fans another reason to argue about whether the 6 God is still dominating the culture or simply releasing music at an impressive pace.
