Born and raised in Jackson, Michigan, Jakaree Harris, better known by her stage name Bxg Jak, has always had music coursing through her veins. Her musical journey began in the pews of her local church, singing in the choir and playing instruments in the school band. “Music has always been around me,” Jak reflects. “From church choirs to school bands, it’s like I’ve been in love with music since I was a child.” Her early exposure to different genres and musical settings laid a solid foundation for her future endeavors in the music industry.
Bxg Jak describes her style as versatile, a testament to her growth both as an individual and an artist. “My music is a reflection of my life, my growth over the years,” she explains. Jak’s lyrical content often delves into personal stories, struggles, and triumphs, allowing her audience to find pieces of themselves in her work. Her ability to resonate with listeners is what sets her apart. “I believe my audience can relate to the stories I tell in my music,” Jak notes. This relatability has helped her build a loyal fan base that eagerly anticipates each release.
Recently, Bxg Jak experienced one of the highlights of her career—opening for Ralfy the Plug, an artist she grew up listening to. “It was truly an honor to open for another artist I grew up listening to,” Jak recalls. This opportunity solidified her belief in her path and pushed her to aim even higher. With 34k views on her highest YouTube video to date, Jak is both humbled and motivated. She’s continually pushing her boundaries, improving her stage presence, and crafting her lyrical abilities.
Despite being relatively new to the industry, Jak is no stranger to teamwork. As a member of Timeless Music Group, she benefits from the support and guidance that comes with being part of an artist development team. Her background as a college basketball team captain has undoubtedly shaped her work ethic and understanding of the importance of collaboration. “Jak knows teamwork,” she says with a smile.
Social media plays a crucial role in Jak’s music career, acting as a bridge between her and her fans, as well as a platform for collaboration. “I use social media to connect with my fans and collaborate with other musicians. It’s an efficient way to share ideas,” she explains. She aims to strengthen her presence on platforms like Instagram, using it as a tool to engage more deeply with her audience.
Looking ahead, Bxg Jak is excited to release her next single, “Please Me.” With her feet firmly planted in her experiences and her eyes set on the future, Jak is determined to keep evolving. “I’ve faced challenges, and I’m sure I’ll face many more, but I believe I can overcome them by applying myself,” she says confidently. Whether it’s overcoming anxiety or fine-tuning her writing, Bxg Jak is committed to her craft, ready to share her journey with the world, one track at a time.
