DaBaby is pushing back against recent claims tying him to political activity, telling fans not to believe what they’re seeing online. The clarification comes after reports suggested he would appear at a pro-Trump Valentine’s Day event in Washington, D.C.
The event, titled “MAGA Is in the Air,” was announced by conservative content creator CJ Pearson along with a group of young Donald Trump supporters known as the Cruel Kids Table. Scheduled for February 13, the gathering quickly gained attention after rumors spread that DaBaby would attend as a special guest.
Over the weekend, however, DaBaby took to Twitter/X to shut those claims down—at least partially. “Anything mentioning my name & politics right now is fake news,” he wrote. “Don’t take the bait!” In the same post, he pivoted attention back to his music, referencing his new single “Pop Dat Thang” and his upcoming album, Be More Grateful.
At this point, it’s still unclear whether DaBaby’s statement definitively means he will not appear at the MAGA-themed event. While his post strongly suggests distancing himself from current political chatter, the rapper has previously been open about his views. During a 2022 appearance on the Full Send podcast, DaBaby publicly praised Donald Trump for granting a presidential pardon to Kodak Black, calling Trump a “gangster” for the move.
This rumored appearance isn’t the only source of controversy DaBaby has faced recently. In September, he drew heavy criticism for recreating the death of Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska in a music video. Zarutska, 23, was killed after being stabbed on a train in Charlotte, an incident that sparked widespread outrage when referenced visually in the rapper’s work.
The following month, DaBaby also met with Garry McFadden, the Mecklenburg County Sheriff. Details of that meeting were never made public, leaving more questions than answers.
For now, DaBaby appears focused on redirecting attention toward his music rather than politics. Whether his name will remain attached to the upcoming MAGA event—or if the speculation will fade—remains to be seen.
