For over three decades, Eddie Polo Carey, known on the mic as Ganksta C, has been spitting raw, unapologetic rhymes that define the essence of real Hip-Hop. Hailing from Richmond, California, Ganksta C has witnessed the evolution of the genre firsthand, from its humble beginnings to its mainstream dominance. But despite the changes around him, his passion for the culture has remained constant.
“I’ve been making music for 33 years, and I’m just as hungry as I was when I first started,” says Ganksta C, reflecting on his long journey. His career began with a song titled “The Hit”, but it’s his unwavering dedication to the art that has truly set him apart in the scene. His musical style blends street authenticity with poetic lyricism, and his influences come from every corner of Hip-Hop culture, particularly melodies that speak to the soul.
Even though he has yet to collaborate with other artists, Ganksta C has high hopes for the future. “I’d love to work with Dr. Dre,” he admits, acknowledging the legend’s unmatched influence on Hip-Hop. Despite being unsigned, he dreams of securing a record deal, but remains self-reliant, producing his own music alongside talented collaborators like Quint Black and Muggs Majhandhra. He also creates his own music video concepts, bringing his visual aesthetic to life on screen.
In an industry where overnight fame is often the goal, Ganksta C’s approach is about longevity, passion, and authenticity. One of his biggest supporters? “The ladies,” he says, with a grin. His sound continues to resonate with fans, especially with his most recent track, “This Pimpin” by Ganksta C, which showcases his evolved style while staying true to his roots.
Looking ahead, Ganksta C dreams of taking his music to places like Brazil, where he can connect with international fans and perform in front of crowds that feed off his energy. His past performances, like his legendary set in North Dallas alongside Scarface and Spice 1 in 1993, serve as proof that his stage presence is undeniable. In five years, he sees himself in Ghana, expanding his global reach even further.
