How would you describe your musical style?
“I would say my music style is versatile. Hence my name Apolla. I picked that name because I feel like I’m the female version of Apollo the Greek god of music. I enjoy finding ways to express my truth using different genres. Besides me challenging myself. I’m always getting compared to different artist with completely different music styles. The sky the limit and I’m not trying to box myself in one style when I know I’m capable of doing all.”
What is the first album you owned?
“The first album I owned was an Alicia keys album called the Diary of Alicia in 2003. I couldn’t stop singing her songs. That’s when I realized I could sing because my music teacher made me join chorus.”
How do you prepare before going up on stage?
“I’m still learning what makes me comfortable before going on stage. But for now I just take a deep breath and walk on.”
If we’re going to buy you a drink, what should it be?
“A Glass of wine I hate the taste of alcohol but if I had to choose it would Amaretto sour because you can barely taste the liquor. Thank god for that mix.”
What’s a song that has been stuck in your head these days?
“A song that been stuck in my head these day is Gyalis by Capella Grey. Like how can that not get stuck I want she and she and she and they love them so me.”
Who’s your favorite artist?
“My favorite artist would be me but my second favorite artist would be H.E.R I’ve been listening to her before she blew up. Just watching her process and the way she became successful was very inspiring to me. The topics she chooses to speak on touches my soul every time. She’s dropped music in the darkest time of my life and mostly each song felt relatable. I see why she called her self H.E.R because I feel like her even though I’m not.”
Tell us about the first song you made. Was it a success or a failure?
“The first song I ever made is called “Risky”. Risky is about me realizing my self value and waiting for a man to notice me realize my value as well. I created that song in 2017 I just got out of toxic relationship. And I needed a reminder of who I was to not go back to the under valued person I was. I recently posted it this year In July. So I can’t really say if it’s a success yet. But the feedback I got for the song so far has always been great.”
If you could pick one or the other, what would you choose, the money or the fame?
“The money, all though it doesn’t buy happiness we need money to survive. I wouldn’t want to be popular and broke that’s know way to live.”
If you could go back in time or in the future, which one would you choose and why?The future because the only way to move is forward. The past already happened and our experiences create us to be who we are today. You can change something from the past and no longer have the same passions you once had. I’m happy and content with the person I’m becoming I’m no longer ashamed of my past. I learned from my mistakes and forgave myself because that foundation created the woman I am today. I know the future has nothing but success for me from all the hard work I put in from my past.
