Mike Epps is taking accountability after a resurfaced stand-up clip drew criticism for remarks he made about Nicki Minaj and her recent political affiliations.
During a recent comedy set, Epps made an explicit joke referencing Minaj’s public support of Donald Trump and the Republican Party. The joke quickly circulated online, prompting backlash from fans who felt the comments crossed the line. In response, Epps shared a video on social media offering a direct and personal apology to Minaj, her husband Kenneth Petty, and their family.
“I am Mr. Accountability,” Epps said in the clip. “I say stuff and do stuff, and then I go to bed, wake up the next morning, and having prayed on it and thought about it, I just wanna apologize.” He admitted that his on-stage persona can sometimes become unfiltered, especially when he’s in performance mode. “I’m a comedian. Sometimes I get on that stage, have a little drink, and go wild,” he added. “Just wanted to apologize.”
Minaj, meanwhile, has been increasingly vocal about her political views in recent months. She has appeared at events such as Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest and the premiere of Melania, signaling open support for conservative politics. In a recent interview, she described feeling a long-standing “premonition” that she had a second calling beyond music — one that may involve politics. She explained that recent presidential campaigns sparked a deeper interest, saying she felt compelled to speak out when she believed her predictions were aligning with real-world events.
As of now, Minaj has not publicly responded to Epps’ apology. Still, the comedian’s swift acknowledgment reflects his effort to cool tensions after a joke that clearly struck a nerve.
