From the beginning of the soulful opening of the song, it’s clear there is more than a noticeable style departure from “Love Sick” and the last few releases from singer and songwriter, rapper and at times rocker, Niño Brown. When taking into account songs like Pink Kadillak, it’s difficult to identify that this is in fact the same artist who growled a melodic rap reminiscent of none other than Lil Peep. Audiences around the globe are quickly taking notice of the many styles and many faces of Niño Brown, formerly acoustic singer-songwriter, Cortez Garza.
Having toured the United States extensively and received multiple accolades for songwriting, Niño, who became intent on breaking new ground sonically and lyrically, was able to satisfy both checkpoints with a new hip-hop based project that sprinkled various influences into the mix, from rock to country and a lot in between.
“I just wanted to say whatever was on my mind, no matter how controversial and then that transfered into the concepts for the videos”, said Brown. Brown is no stranger to controversy and has recently come under scrutiny for the use of prop guns in a number of his videos. “I just don’t see how it’s any different than the action movies in Hollywood, not too much more to say on the matter”, said Niño. “Love Sick” is the 6th single off the upcoming album Redbone which was originally scheduled for a February release but has since been delayed several times. “After a few visual releases I set a goal to drop a video a month for a year” offers Brown. Not only did he reach his goal, Brown is positioned to release his 13th video come September.
The “Love Sick” visual is brought to you by video production team Brasher Media who is responsible for the majority of the content released by Brown over the last year. “Conceptually I wanted to try and fit the vibe of the music in “Love Sick” to match the visual and considering my love of Chicago house started in the gay bars that were largely associated with the underground dance scene, it kind of made sense to sort of nod to the LGBTQ community and also the growing community of people who practice poly amorous relationships”. said Brown. Brown, a reluctant spokesperson for these respective communities says “Though I have an appreciation for the male and female form, I prefer woman but with that being said, a large majority of my friends and collaborators are non binary / gender fluid and or staunch members of the LGBTQ community and I’ve felt a responsibility to only inform myself but to uplift those who have shown me continued love and support”.
