Growing up in Mississippi, Desmond Cary, better known by his stage name Htk Dero, always had music in his heart, and he attributes his passion for the craft to his mother. From an early age, music became a source of inspiration and healing for him. One of the most memorable moments in his budding career was the thrill of performing on stage, an experience that confirmed his desire to pursue music full-time.
Htk Dero describes himself as a “melody rapper,” using rhythm and flow to create music that resonates deeply with his audience. His songs often carry messages that help listeners navigate life’s challenges, offering both solace and motivation. With the passing of his grandmother, his drive as an artist only intensified. His music now carries not only the hopes of inspiring others but also the goal of helping his family.
While Htk Dero remains truly independent, handling his collaborations and communications through simple text messages, he never loses sight of his mission. Although he hasn’t yet received any accolades, the grind never stops for him. Facing challenges like a lack of support from others, Desmond continues pushing forward, fueled by the memory of his grandmother and the dream of creating a better life for his loved ones.
His upcoming single, “No Nigga,” promises to showcase his unique melodic sound, continuing to build on the emotional depth that defines his music. Desmond believes his music has the power to uplift and guide people through their toughest moments, and he looks forward to sharing more of it with the world.
