Monique “Zinn” McCarthy is not trying to present a polished version of herself. On her new single Walking Chaos, now available on streaming platforms, the Salt Lake City artist leans into the messier parts of daily life and builds a record around them. The result is a track that feels personal without overexplaining itself, grounded in lived experience rather than a curated persona.
Raised in Utah, Zinn’s path into music started early through structured training. She took voice lessons seriously from a young age and immersed herself in school plays before enrolling at Pioneer Performing Arts in American Fork. There, her focus on musical theatre and drama sharpened both her vocal control and her ability to translate emotion into performance. That foundation shows up clearly on Walking Chaos, where her delivery carries just as much weight as the lyrics themselves.
The single centers on a simple but relatable idea. Life rarely moves in a straight line. Stress builds from small moments as much as major ones, and the emotional toll can feel constant. Zinn describes the song as a reflection of that reality, explaining that it captures “dealing with the stress of everyday life. From disagreements to traffic jam, life has its days and so do I.” Rather than framing chaos as something to escape, she positions it as something to acknowledge and even embrace.
There is also a strong sense of identity woven into the track. Zinn does not separate her personality from the concept of chaos. She leans into it. “My personality speaks for itself and you’ll definitely hear that through this song,” she says. That honesty becomes the backbone of the record. It is not just about external pressure but about recognizing how internal energy interacts with the world around you. Her message is direct. “Don’t minimize your worth because society says so.”
The creative process behind Walking Chaos adds another layer to its authenticity. The session that sparked the song was her first time working with Grammy nominated songwriter Eddie Serrano. Zinn recalls being struck by his ability to quickly understand artists on a deeper level. “It’s like he’s a wizard when it comes to artist singing about their true emotions,” she explains. That dynamic helped shape a session that felt immediate rather than overworked.
The idea itself came together in an unexpected way. Just before the session, Zinn had a conversation with her mom, who described her as a “walking ball of chaos.” Instead of brushing it off, Zinn took that phrase into the studio and built around it. “I knew exactly what I wanted to sing about,” she says. The result is a track that feels spontaneous in its origin but intentional in its execution.

Alongside Serrano, the record also includes contributions from Eric “DobleU” Barragán, a protégé of Serrano who continues to build his own catalog as a songwriter. DobleU, a Mexican-born and Texas-raised artist, has already worked with names like Frankie J, Mica Javier, and Ana Saia, bringing an additional layer of perspective to the writing process. Nicholas “Nick Dre” André handled writing and vocal production, while Russ “Rusty Mack” Mitkowski produced, mixed, and mastered the track.
Mitkowski’s background includes work with artists like The Weeknd, Wiz Khalifa, and Snoop Dogg, and that experience shows in the song’s clean but dynamic sound. The production leaves room for Zinn’s voice while still giving the track a sense of scale.
Zinn’s influences and peer comparisons help place her within a broader pop landscape. Fans of artists like Bebe Rexha, Paramore, Evanescence, and Miley Cyrus may find familiar elements in her approach, particularly in the balance between emotional directness and strong vocal presence. At the same time, Walking Chaos avoids feeling derivative. It is more about shared emotional territory than stylistic imitation.
With the single now out, Zinn is already building momentum for what comes next. A music video is set to follow on April 24, expanding the visual world around the track and giving her another platform to express the themes behind it. She also hints that this release is just the beginning, telling listeners to “keep a look out for so many more goodies.”
What stands out most about Walking Chaos is its clarity of intent. Zinn is not trying to simplify her experiences into something easily digestible. Instead, she presents them as they are, layered, unpredictable, and sometimes overwhelming. That choice gives the song its edge. It speaks directly to listeners who recognize that chaos is not always something to fix. Sometimes it is just something to move through.
For Zinn, this release feels less like a statement of arrival and more like an introduction to how she plans to operate as an artist. Honest, self-aware, and willing to sit in uncomfortable spaces if it leads to something real.
Walking Chaos is available now on streaming platforms. Listen on Spotify and follow Zinn on Instagram to stay updated on the April 24 music video release and everything she has coming next.
