On “4For4,” Janae makes this indeed her show. With a unique perspective on updating that classic pop sound, much emotion gets incorporated within these few tracks. The ebb and flow of the journey, one from pure bliss to demanding, makes the experience feel alive. She pours her entire heart into the mix. Lyricism further highlights the highly personal nature of the tracks. Aspects of trying to understand other people, motivations, and finding connections, play a significant role in the introspective kick of the journey.
Giddy melodies emerge on the chilled-out vibes of “Deep.” The groove here possesses such heart. Her voice deftly navigates the sense of inner peace the song embodies. Percussion features a lighter touch than the rest of the collection, as its design is fragile. On “Ca$h App,” the song delves deeper into a sense of pure want. With this sense of need, of desire, it feels enthralling to see it done with dignity. Quite an original take, “Lick Back” makes the singing sample feel gorgeous. When the rest of the track comes into the fray, it has a fierceness as she virtually confronts the listener. Clever riffs underpin the hushed awe of “Own It.” Everything has this sense of pure devotion. Verses here are crafted with this approach done with the most significant degree of dignity, one of pure equality.
Janae brings a freewheeling, spirited sensation to “4For4”.
