Soundproof, Utah
Q: What is your name/stage name?
A: “My name is George and I go by Soundproof.“
Q: Where are you from?
A: “I was born in Washington, raised in Idaho and moved out to Utah about 6 years ago.“
Q: How long have you been making music?
A: “I’ve been making music for as long as I can remember. My parents had me taking piano lessons for 8 years as a kid. I always had a passion for it. I taught myself guitar after I quit piano and started producing cinematic music on my family computer as a freshman in high school. It wasn’t up until about 2019 that I really started taking it seriously.“
Q: Who’s your biggest inspiration?
A: “My biggest inspiration is Scott Storch. He is an absolute legend in the industry with plaques on plaques and I’ve always been able to get motivated and inspired by just watching YouTube videos of him cooking up. His talent in piano and ear for music push me to want to work to get to that level at some point. I can’t wait for the day I get the chance to work with him in the future.“
Q: What genre of music do you create?
A: “As a producer who loves listening to so many genres it’s been difficult to stay in one lane throughout my career. I make all kinds of music including RnB, Trap, Punk, Soul, cinematic and orchestral, EDM, pop etc. although I would say my biggest share has been in trap and EDM.“
Q: Who’s one person, dead or alive, that you’d want to work with?
A: “Patsy Cline was somebody I think would have been amazing to work with. I remember listening to old G-Eazy back in the day and how the samples he would flip in his beats got me into a lot of 50’s and 60’s music and I just think with an artist like her, we could have made some insane tracks by combining her decade’s music with todays.“
Q: Who are your biggest supporters?
A: “My wife hands down has always been my biggest supporter and ‘fan’. She saw the potential in me before I recognized it myself and always kept pushing me to pursue music knowing it will pay off big time in the long run. My brother-in-law and business partner Drop was another day one who really helped push me and helped me see that this was something I could eventually do as a career back when I was still treating it as a hobby.“
Q: What is your latest release?
A: “My latest release is a track called “Adderallnighters” I dropped with Billi Blasted. I produced the beat over a year ago and wrote some lyrics with no intention of recording it until I heard some of what Billi Blasted had written to it when he asked to buy it. We agreed the verses we wrote complimented each other so well it had to be a collab. We ended up booking the studio and recording it the same day. We finally dropped it over a year later last month.“
When is your next release?
A: “TBD. I’ve released 4 or 5 songs for my personal discography so far this year. I plan on dropping at least one or two more singles this year, but I have too many other projects going on to focus on my personal music at the moment.“
Q: What are you currently working on?
A: “Right now I’m wanting to executive produce an album featuring some of the most talented local rappers in Utah on my beats. We have so much talent and potential in our state and a huge underground scene yet there haven’t been many artists from here who have really popped off and Utah still lacks a collective movement or sound. While that is changing slowly, there are a lot of us out here that are trying to push that further faster and that’s why I want to create a project that can really showcase that best of what our state has to offer musically.“
Q: Where did your name come from?
A: “I actually got my name from the homie Drop late one night in the studio when we were cooking up. It’s just everything you need to know about my music right there in my name. To all the haters, anyone who doubts me, anyone who speaks on me, you can say what you want to say, but you can’t deny the music. My music speaks for itself. The proof is in the sound.“
