Background and Beginnings
Q: What is your name / stage name? Where are you from? What do you do? How long have you been making music?
Aye West: I go by Aye West, and I hail from Nashville, TN. I’m a musician, songwriter, and performer. I’ve been actively involved in music since my exit from the U.S. Navy in 2018, but my artistic journey dates back to my time in a band during 6th Grade.
Artistic Evolution
Q: What was your first song/project? Who’s your inspiration? What genre of music do you create?
Aye West: One of my notable projects is “PTSD” on Apple Music/Spotify. However, my current favorite is “Tracey’s Son” due to its diversity and authentic depiction of who I am. My inspiration comes from life experiences and, notably, my children. I create music in the realms of Hip Hop and Afro.
Collaborations and Aspirations
Q: What are some features you have? Who’s one person, dead or alive, that you’d want to work with?
Aye West: I’ve collaborated with artists globally, including a project in Japan and work with the group “Niice Entertainment” back home. Dream collaborations include Gorilla Zoe, Starlito, Kendrick Lamar, J Cole, Busta Rhymes, Ludacris, and more.
Industry Dynamics and Ambitions
Q: Are you signed to a label? Do you want a record deal, a distribution deal, or none? Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Aye West: Currently unsigned, I’m open to both record and distribution deals. In the next 5 years, I envision myself on billboards, touring extensively, and exceeding any expectations I could fathom.
Support System and Artistic Autonomy
Q: Who are your biggest supporters? Do you write your own material?
Aye West: My family, especially my mother, has been a tremendous support. They motivate me to persevere. Yes, I write all my material, ensuring it remains original and genuine.
Creative Process and Musical Preferences
Q: Do you create your own music video concepts? What’s your favorite music to listen to?
Aye West: I develop my music video concepts. I enjoy instrumentals, particularly those featuring an Alto Saxophone. Listening to myself helps me identify areas for improvement in subsequent projects.
Current and Future Projects
Q: What are you currently working on? What is your latest release? When is your next release?
Aye West: I’ve recently completed my EP, set to release in January 2024. My latest release, “What You Want,” is available on major platforms. The next project in line is my EP titled “Tracey’s Son.”
Live Performances and Touring Aspirations
Q: Where is one place you want to travel to perform? What’s the biggest crowd that you have performed for?
Aye West: I aspire to return to Japan and perform on the main stage. Additionally, performing in all 50 states in America is a goal. While I’ve performed in front of hundreds in intimate settings, my ultimate goal is to captivate thousands.
The Journey Ahead
Q: Who’s someone you can see yourself on tour with? Who produces your music?
Aye West: Touring with J Cole, Travis Scott, or Chris Brown would be a dream. I collaborate with various producers, with “Produced by Kayy” at 1kpStudios handling my latest project, and JSix producing my single “What You Want.”
