A familiar name doesn’t always mean a familiar relationship. People change, loyalties shift, and sometimes the hardest distance to understand is the one growing between you and someone you have known for years. Blackkingkofi brings those experiences into focus on “Real or Fake 2,” arriving November 20.
The upcoming single follows “Real or Fake,” revisiting its questions of trust with a different sound and more personal ground to cover. This time, Blackkingkofi draws on friends switching up, tensions within family and the loss of his close friend Pili. Loyalty connects those experiences, giving the follow-up a clear purpose beyond continuing the title.
There is a particular weight to questioning people who already know your story. These are relationships with history, where expectations come from years of shared experiences. “Real or Fake 2” explores what happens when that history no longer lines up with how someone treats you.
The loss of Pili adds another dimension. Grief sits alongside the frustration of changing relationships, bringing attention to the people whose presence mattered and whose absence continues to be felt. It gives the song an emotional centre that reaches beyond calling out disloyalty.
Blackkingkofi also changes the musical approach. Where the original leaned toward an old-school hip hop feel, part two takes a more modern, upbeat and grungy direction. That shift gives the follow-up its own energy while keeping a connection to the message listeners first encountered.
For the Canadian artist, whose music draws on hip hop, dancehall and Caribbean influences, the release continues a willingness to move between sounds. His Trinidadian and Ghanaian heritage and upbringing in Trinidad and Tobago inform that wider identity, while “Real or Fake 2” keeps its subject matter rooted in personal relationships.
The release follows “Out the Country,” which reached No. 5 on Canada’s Hip-Hop iTunes chart and picked up traction on TikTok in Ghana. Those milestones form part of his recent progress, but the upcoming single brings the conversation back to the writing and the experiences behind it.
Sequels give an artist a chance to show what has changed since the first record. With “Real or Fake 2,” Blackkingkofi returns to loyalty with fresh perspective, a harder musical edge and people on his mind.
“Real or Fake 2” drops November 20, 2026.
