[Question 1: Memorable Moments and Highlights]
GenZ: Kubla, you’ve had an impressive career so far. Can you share with us your top three biggest highlights?
Kubla: Absolutely! It’s hard to pick just three, but I’d say my top career highlights are:
- Writer And Producer of UK#1 Single with Cheryl Cole – “Crazy Stupid Love”: Collaborating with Cheryl Cole on a chart-topping hit was an incredible experience. It’s always special when your work reaches the top of the charts.
- Writing and Producing a Song with Akon and Wiz Khalifa – “Dirty Work”: Working with two industry heavyweights like Akon and Wiz Khalifa was a dream come true. Creating music that resonated with them was an amazing feeling.
- Producing Music for Two Major Motion Pictures – “Pitch Perfect 3” & “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2”: Having my music featured in popular movies like “Pitch Perfect 3” and “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2” was a surreal moment. Seeing my work on the big screen was a true honor.
[Question 2: Defining Moments]
GenZ: Kubla, can you recall two defining moments in your journey where you knew music was your calling?
Kubla: Of course! The first defining moment was when I had the opportunity to sit in a studio and witness the process of writing a song from scratch. It was eye-opening and humbling to see the skill and dedication of the people in the room. That experience made me realize that I could excel in this field and brought the possibility of writing music professionally into focus.
The second defining moment was when I started receiving feedback from fans about my songs. The impact my music had on people was beyond my expectations, and that feeling was addictive. It solidified my passion for pursuing music as an artist and fueled my drive to continue creating meaningful music.
[Question 3: Challenges and Resilience]
GenZ: Kubla, every journey has its ups and downs. Can you share two of the toughest points in your career where you may have questioned this path
Kubla: Absolutely. The first year I spent in Los Angeles was incredibly challenging. I had to leave my family and young kids behind in Arizona while I figured out a living situation. Unfortunately, a few months in, I lost my apartment and ended up living in my car for the rest of the year. It was tough, but I found solace in the studio, sleeping in different rooms when possible and showering at a nearby gym. The silver lining was that my boss and mentor assumed I was dedicated, always the first one in and the last one out, without knowing my situation. (laughs)
Another challenging point was when doubts crept in during my journey. It’s natural to question oneself, especially when facing difficulties or setbacks. However, my faith in my abilities and the constant improvement of my music kept me going. Surrounding myself with talented individuals and learning from their experiences also fueled my determination to push forward.
[Question 4: Favorite Performances and Songs]
GenZ: Kubla, you’ve undoubtedly crafted some incredible music. Do you have any favorite performances that stand out to you?
Kubla: Honestly, I haven’t had the chance to perform yet. As an artist, I’m waiting for the perfect moment and situation to debut myself on stage. But I can assure you, when that time comes, it’ll be unforgettable.
GenZ: Fair enough, Kubla. In that case, do you have a favorite song that you love to perform?
Kubla: Since I haven’t performed yet, I don’t have a personal favorite to perform. However, I’m excited to explore the stage and share my music with a live audience in the future.
[Question 5: The Beginnings]
GenZ: Kubla, how did your music career all start?
Kubla: It all began when I enrolled at CRAS, a sound engineering school that required an internship to graduate. I chose to work under the mentorship of a highly established writer and producer named Wayne Wilkins. Through hard work and dedication, I climbed the ranks, eventually finding myself writing and producing for renowned artists and even opening my own recording studios under the name Hush Money Music.
[Question 6: Accolades]
GenZ: Your music has undoubtedly achieved great success, Kubla. Can you share some of the accolades your songs or music videos have received?
Kubla: Absolutely! Some of the accolades my music has garnered include reaching Billboard #1 in six countries, achieving iTunes #1 status, receiving platinum certifications, amassing over 200 million streams, and securing placements in video games, TV shows, and films. It’s been an incredible journey, and I’m grateful for the recognition my work has received.
Kubla’s journey in the music industry has been a rollercoaster ride filled with challenges, triumphs, and countless moments of inspiration.
