What 3 things does anyone starting in your industry need to know?
Three essential things that anyone starting in the music industry needs to know are:
Consistency is key: Keep pushing forward consistently, no matter how small the steps may seem. Progress often comes from continuous effort and dedication.
Believe in yourself: Confidence in your abilities is crucial. If you don’t believe in yourself and your craft, it’s challenging to convince others to believe in it too. Trust in your talent and vision.
Confront fear and take action: Fear can be paralyzing, especially when it comes to sharing your music or promoting yourself. However, it’s essential to push past that fear and take action. Release your songs, share your content, and don’t let fear hold you back. Remember, imperfection is part of the journey, and negative voices do not define your worth or potential success.
What would you do differently if you were starting in your industry now?
If I were starting in my industry now, I would definitely act on the lessons I’ve learned. I would have released my music sooner, recognizing the importance of not waiting for the perfect moment. Additionally, I would prioritize building a network of trustworthy and dependable connections from the get-go, understanding the value of collaboration and support in navigating the industry’s challenges.
Which people or books have had the most influence on your growth and why?
The people who have influenced my growth profoundly are Rihanna, Madonna, Gwen Stefani, and Alicia Keys. Rihanna’s unapologetic authenticity has taught me the power of staying true to myself in my craft. Madonna and Gwen Stefani’s versatility in music has inspired me to explore different styles and push my creative boundaries. Lastly, Alicia Keys has been instrumental in my journey, as she motivated me to transform my poetry into music, showing me that artistry knows no bounds. Their influence has shaped my perspective and approach to my craft immensely.
What has been your biggest success story? Why do you think it was a success?
My biggest success story was performing in front of an audience and having them start singing along with me. It was the first time that had ever happened, and it significantly boosted my confidence as a music artist. This moment was a success because it not only validated my talent but also showed the connection I had established with the audience through my music.
What keeps you going when things get tough in the music industry?
What keeps me going when things get tough in the music industry is my baby girl. We sing to each other every day, sometimes even turning our conversations into songs. Additionally, music has been instrumental in my healing journey from abuse. Now, I want to pay it forward by using my music to help others heal from their pain and learn to love themselves more. It’s a way for me to give back to the world and use my gifts to make a positive impact on others’ lives.
What made you pursue being an artist full-time?
What made me pursue being an artist full-time was the realization that music had the power to heal me during tough times, and I wanted to extend that healing to others. As a high school teacher, I’ve always emphasized positivity, peace, and love to my students. With so much negativity in the world, I felt compelled to contribute to making it a better place, especially for my daughter who has to grow up in this environment. Music became not just a passion but a calling to spread positivity and healing through my artistry on a full-time basis.
Would you sign to a label?
Yes and No. I would consider signing with a label if they offer me a favorable contract that allows me to retain my copyrights and provides access to resources and connections that I don’t have as an independent artist. However, I would decline if they proposed a 360 deal or attempted to take full ownership of my music.
What projects are you working on for the rest of 2024?
For the remainder of 2024, I have some exciting projects in the pipeline. Firstly, I’m gearing up to release my single titled “Triangle” on June 5th across all streaming platforms. It’s a pop R&B track with a sensual vibe that promises to keep listeners on their toes. Following that, I have another single set to drop the following month. Additionally, I’m excited to announce the launch of new merch.
