Not everyone is fortunate enough to pursue something they’re passionate about in their life, especially as a job. Passion can’t be faked, and following it is often everything that someone can think about. Jesus Brillo is a hip-hop artist who loves music, and it’s always been his dream to become a star in the music industry.
Brillo wanted to be a musician from a young age. He loved listening to hip-hop and reggae on the radio, and he was always thinking of ways he could change the songs and make them his own. However, just because you’re passionate about something doesn’t mean it’s easy to pursue it. “My family didn’t have a lot of money, so, I couldn’t just concentrate on my art for a long time,” Brillo said. He started writing and creating his own songs in 2016, but during that same year, he had to pause his career for economic reasons. He had a daughter he needed to raise, and other economic concerns that kept him away from the world of music. “It broke my heart. I was so close, but still so far away. I thought it was my time, but there was still some waiting to do.” It took four years, until 2020, for Jesus Brillo to get back into music, and he’s quickly taken the world by storm. “I never take the time I have to express myself musically for granted. I know it’s a gift from the universe and I try to honor it every day. I don’t plan to give it up again any time soon.” In addition to his musical work, he also has two companies called Brillo Organic Investments and Brillo Center SRL, which help him provide for himself and his family while pursuing his passion. “It’s amazing not having to constantly think about money. It gives me time to pursue what I’ve wanted ever since I was a kid.”
Since the real start of his career in 2020, Jesus Brillo has gained a lot of attention for his music. His style combines hip-hop, reggae, and trap music to form a truly unique sound. His biggest hits so far are his songs “La Paca” and “Detecto La Dema.” The videos for these songs have over 2.5 million views each. “I directed these music videos myself,” Brillo said. “I wasn’t expecting them to get this much attention, but I’m so excited that my music is resonating with people.” Jesus Brillo has over 12,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, which gets him even more excited. “The fact that I’ve already made it onto peoples’ playlists and into their music libraries is outstanding. I never thought I’d get to where I am today so fast.”
As a young child in Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic, Jesus Brillo always dreamed that he’d be able to make music, but never thought it would truly be a reality. Now that he’s broken into the music scene, he plans on staying there and making songs that people across the globe will love for years to come.
