My name is Sage Walker, and my official Stage Names are Sage Walker, Ahken Rah, and Sage the Black.
Where are you from?
I am from Kinston and Greensboro, North Carolina. Both of these cities have a major impact in my life so I consider myself to be from them both. I was born in Greensboro but raised in Kinston.
What do you do?
I make hip hop and rap music. I have been writing poetry and raps since I was 16 years old but just started releasing music commercially in 2020/2021 (30 years old)
How long have you been making music?
I have been making music since 2010, that is when I bought my first condenser mic.
What was your first song/project?
My first project EVER is called S.A.G.E which means “Stay Above Ground Elevation.” It’s still available on Dat Piff to this day. Though the records and vocal cadence is dated, it allows core fans to listen and get a sense of my growth over the years.
Who’s your inspiration?
My inspiration is my business partner, Cameron Galloway, also known as Charlie Hustle. He is also an MC from NC currently based in DC. We own Ophiuchus Records together, independently. He’s sort of a mastermind of all this music stuff. I’m just a weapon.
What was it like working with _Backwood Sweetie____________
Backwood Sweetie is one of the dopest femcees out of Maryland that I have ever heard. Working with her was like a dream come true. I did some work on her debut album, you can find it on all streaming platforms self-titled, “Christina Shauntay'” Of all the emcees I’ve ever worked with, I believe she’s definitely towards the top of the dopest.
What are some features you have?
Some of the recent features I’ve done include Backwood Sweetie, Cameron Galloway, Marley Marz, The Inner Minds Eye, and Shamir Lee and some of the recent producers include Produced by Jeez out of Louisiana, Furious Stylez out of Tennessee, and Shamir Lee based here in NC (Shamir both raps and makes beats.)
Who’s one person, dead or alive, that you’d want to work with?
One person I would like to work with is J Cole, and I can’t mention him without Benny the Butcher. Those are my dream collaborations.
Are you signed to a label?
I am signed to myself, through Ophiuchus Records, which is owned by Cameron Galloway and myself. We take 100%.
Do you want a record deal, a distribution deal, or none?
If I were to sign a deal, it would likely be for management and distribution, I can’t see myself ever giving away my image, my name or my masters for a few brief moments of fame. I’d rather stake it out for the long-con.
Who are your biggest supporters?
My biggest supporters are my friends and family. Without them, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
What are you currently working on?
I am currently working on releasing two albums, one is my debut solo album self-titled, “The Sage Walker Theory,” and the other is titled “Black God,” which is a group album with me and Cameron Galloway.
What is your latest release?
My latest release is entitled “The Basement: Sage Walker” produced and curated by Furious Stylez, released on all streaming platforms March 1.
When is your next release?
My next release doesn’t have a set date yet but we are aiming for mid-April
Where is one place you want to travel to perform?
I would really like to perform in Amsterdam, or really anywhere in Europe.
What’s the biggest crowd that you have performed for?
The biggest crowd I have performed for was 2,000 people in downtown Greensboro back in 2017. That was such a good feeling.
Who’s someone you can see yourself on tour with?
Someone I can see myself on tour with is J Cole or Jadakiss. I know they can get me in front of the right crowds.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
In 5 years, I see myself as having launched a successful music career and being lauded as one of the greatest lyricists to ever live. There is a thin line between genius and insanity, and it is measured only by success.
