Q1 What’s your name?
A1 My name’s Clay Cockrell, but my stage name is just CC.
Q2 Where are you from?
A2 I was born in Durham, NC, but I’ve spent most of my life in Bristol, TN.
Q3 How old are you?
A3 I’m 22 years old.
Q4 When did you start making music?
A4 I started when I was 16, recording on a gaming headset into Audacity.
Q5 How serious are you about your career?
A5 I’ve always taken my songwriting seriously as an art, but up until recently I hadn’t been serious about pursuing it as a career. That’s all changing this year, though. I have a lot of new and fresh music in the vault and coming out soon.
Q6 Have you ever thought about quitting music?
A6 When I graduated high school and I was entering into college, I started getting into writing poetry and prose. For a couple of years I had stopped writing raps and focused solely on writing a novel. Eventually I realized that I really wanted to do both.
Q7 Who inspires you the most?
A7 As far as rap is concerned, MF DOOM has probably been my biggest inspiration. He was one of the first artists to open my ears towards more experimental sounds.
Q8 What got you into making music?
A8 I don’t know what exactly pushed me to actually start recording, but I’ve wanted to perform ever since I was a child. I remember first writing raps when I was 10.
Q9 Who is your favorite producer?
A9 Kanye is probably my favorite producer of all time. The way he uses vocal samples has always made his music feel so alive to me.
Q10 What is one of your best songs/beats?
A10 “death” is the single off my upcoming EP, and I would say is some of my best work to date. I wrote it during a dark point in my life where I was drowning my thoughts in the bottle, and I think that emotion is portrayed well in it.
Q11 Are you signed to a record or label?
A11 No, I am 100% independent for the time being.
Q12 Have you ever performed?
A12 I’ve never performed on a large stage. Only ever at small open mics/karaoke bars.
Q13 Who would you most like to collaborate with?
A13 I would really love to get a feature from Childish Gambino, he never misses.
Q14 If you could open for any artist who would it be?
A14 Milo has been one of my favorite artists over the past 5 or 6 years, and I think my music often has a similar style and could be a good warm-up to his set.
Q15 What’s next for you?
A15 I’m currently working on a mixtape called “Life, Death, and Carnal Desire” that will be dropping in the next few months. I’m also working on an album that I hope to have finished and released by the end of the year. Aside from the music, I plan on becoming much more active on social media, specifically on my Instagram @CSee423.
