Actor and comedian Jamie Foxx has spoken out following a controversial moment at the 2026 BAFTA ceremony involving audience member John Davidson, who has Tourette’s syndrome.
During the event, Davidson had several audible outbursts while Michael B. Jordan and Delroy Lindo were presenting an award on stage. Among the shouted remarks was a racial slur, along with other profanities directed at individuals during the ceremony. The incident quickly went viral on social media.
Reacting in the comments section of a post shared by The Neighborhood Talk, Foxx expressed strong disapproval. He questioned whether Tourette’s syndrome could explain the specific language used and labeled the situation “unacceptable.” His remarks sparked debate online, with some users echoing his skepticism while others urged greater understanding of the neurological condition.
The disruptions were not isolated. Davidson reportedly shouted additional profanities during moments involving BAFTA chair Sara Putt and filmmakers being acknowledged on stage. According to reports, he left the ceremony before it concluded.
Host Alan Cumming addressed the audience during the broadcast, asking for compassion and awareness. He explained that Tourette’s syndrome can manifest through involuntary vocal tics, including sudden or inappropriate language. Cumming emphasized that such outbursts are not intentional and encouraged the audience to maintain a respectful environment.
Tourette’s syndrome is a neurological disorder characterized by repetitive, involuntary movements and vocalizations called tics. In rare cases, it can include involuntary utterances of offensive words, a symptom known as coprolalia.
The incident has since sparked broader conversations about disability awareness, accountability, and public reactions in high-profile settings.
