On Thursday, February 13, the Recording Academy announced the 2025 inductees, featuring eight albums and five singles. JAY-Z, the sole Hip Hop artist recognized this year, will be honored alongside Luther Vandross’ 1981 album Never Too Much, Santana’s 1999 album Supernatural, and Gloria Estefan & Miami Sound Machine’s 1985 hit “Conga,” among others. The Grammys Hall of Fame Gala will take place in Los Angeles on May 16.
Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. expressed his excitement in a statement: “It’s a privilege to recognize these eclectic recordings as the 2025 GRAMMY Hall Of Fame inductees. Music has the unique power to shape culture and mark moments in time. Each inducted recording reflects that spirit, and we’re excited to celebrate these impactful works, ensuring their legacies continue to inspire generations to come.”
JAY-Z remains the most awarded rapper in Grammys history, boasting 25 wins — one more than Kanye West and three more than Kendrick Lamar. He is also married to Beyoncé, the artist with the most Grammy Awards of all time, holding a record 35 wins.
While JAY-Z does not currently own the copyright to his 1996 classic Reasonable Doubt, legal documents uncovered by TMZ in August revealed that his attorneys notified the courts that once Roc-A-Fella Records’ ownership concludes in 2031, those rights will revert to “one Shawn Carter/JAY-Z.”
The copyrights extend beyond the album title, covering each individual track on the 14-song platinum-selling project.
In other significant news, a lawsuit accusing JAY-Z and Diddy of raping a minor 25 years ago has been withdrawn following heavy scrutiny of the claims.
On Friday, February 14, the anonymous plaintiff’s lawyer, Tony Buzbee, filed a notice in a New York federal court to voluntarily dismiss the suit.
The case was dismissed without prejudice, allowing the possibility for it to be refiled in the future.
