The internet is one of the most significant opportunities the world has ever produced. It has created not only new opportunities but also new kinds of opportunities. For a new-gen artist, these opportunities are present all across the board. The question is about letting your potential clients know you are there. How do you do that? Well, according to young and budding musician Michael A. Roberts, start with building a digital portfolio. Here are his top three reasons.
Connectivity
When you have all your work in one place, it gives your potential clients a better sense of your caliber and skill. For Roberts, this is critical because “it allows the client to assess your ability to express yourself clearly. More practically, it makes it easier for them to find you. When you scatter your work on different social media platforms, it might generate temporary excitement around your work, but that rarely translates into anything serious. When you are serious about your job and about finding potential clients, you must make the most of professional portfolio websites.”
Diversity
Your digital portfolio is a resume that keeps updating itself. Think about it, every time you learn a new skill or find your edge with new software, you can share your acquired expertise on your platform. This unique style can be categorized under a new category, showing your fans and clients what all you are capable of. Roberts believes that a diverse digital portfolio “creates your image. A diverse portfolio shows your ability to adapt to new software, attempt new things, look for originality, in short, all those things that clients consider when hiring someone.”
Consistency
Consistency is key to success. When you show consistency in your work, you show your ability to commit to assignments over a long period. Roberts adds, “Most clients prefer to work long term even with their freelancers. It helps them save a lot of time. When they feel that you are consistent in your delivery and can be responsible, they develop an interest in you.”
A digital portfolio puts the power in your hands. It allows you, as Roberts explains, to create an image of yourself through your work. And it’s often that employers go for that image as it points towards reliable and creative people.
