Txffy; Cleveland, Ohio
Q: What is your name/stage name?
A: “Stage name is Txffy…it’s pronounced Tuffy.”
Q: Where are you from?
A: “I was born in Hammond, IN. At some point we moved to St. Louis, Mo. and lived there up until I was like 10 goin on 11. then we moved to Cleveland, OH. been in Ohio ever since.”
Q: What do you do?
A: “I work lol currently obtaining another job at the moment. Moving to another city in Ohio. Whenever im not working, im cookin up sum’n in silence. In the studio, plannin trips for music videos, whatever I can do to get closer.”
Q: How long have you been making music?
A: “That’s a question lol. This music shit been a journey.
I fell in love w/ it when I was 9, sum’n like that. it started w/ just writin lyrics. Notebooks, on the back of my bell work at school type shit…but I’m just learning how to navigate, how to stick & move. Started catching on few years back…and it ain’t just me out here learning & movin. There are other niggas. Different breed of niggas that are underground w/ me. All of us slept on and they all sleepin on me lol so I been in this shit dolo w/ it…shit takes time to say the least.”
Q: Who’s your biggest inspiration?
A: “Shiitt, you can draw inspiration from a plethora of things. One could say my uncle is who started me down this music funnel. I remember his recordings like it was 5 min ago. I’m actually pissed at that nigga fr bc he was ahead of his time back then…I’m tellin yall even his old shit’ll be relevant still today. I don’t think he knew how timeless and authentic his shit was like a breath of fresh air…bc it was unlike any artist I favored in those times. my other inspirations like Ludacris, Nore, Usher, Biggie, etc. Today, ColeWorld, Kendrick, Drake. But I listen to em all. I gain inspiration from you all.”
Q: What genre of music do you create?
A: “Mostly I rap but I been findin myself in R&B. I merge them both fr bc I can never decide lol I live for bars & flows but them heartbreaks be bussin’ too if you cook it right.”
Q: What was it like working with (collabs?)
A: “Collabs are another thing i live for lol but I’m calmin down on that shit. Not everything is a collab to these niggas, I want to touch on that more but another day lol
Collabs when in the right spirit, love it! I’ve touched beats by Zaytoven & K.E. On The Track. Met some solid niggas in Atlanta such as Diamond District & 2ooley. I got niggas i went to school w/ that do music and videos and shit, we created bonds & movies dawg.”
Q: What are some features you have?
A: “My features are underground niggas fr. But I’m not known for features. I can hold my own weight by myself. I mean it’s been just me, so…
But when I do need a feat, I’m callin the niggas.”
Q: What are some features you want to get?
A: “I would like features from Drake. Gimme Jay-Z fasho. Kendrick of course. J. Cole. I can rock w/ anybody, what’s up? I can talk that freak shit w/ Doja Cat. I can die happy if I could touch a Timbaland beat. I have no limits. I’m just waitin patiently for my time.”
Q: Who’s one person, dead or alive, that you’d want to work with?
A: “Sheesh… uhm, that’s kinda tough lol imma say J. Cole tho. I’ve seen him at his shows and i swear that nigga be talkin to me. I’d like to work w/ any of those under that hip hop umbrella mostly bc that’s where my hurt at.”
Q: Do you want a record deal, a distribution deal, or none?
A: “A distribution deal would be most ideal. You gotta start somewhere tho, right?
Q: Who are your biggest supporters?
A: “I don’t even think I met my biggest supporter frfr lol I can say that I personally know a woman from Columbus who ran my shit up 1k…by herself. That’s excluding the other streams calculated. No, she’s not my mom. No, she ain’t my girlfriend either.”
Q: Where did your name come from?
A: ”It’s actually my nickname. I just thru the x in it because I’m extra. My grandfather told my mother to nickname me Tuffy. I would later come to find that the nickname/edited stage name of mine was inspired by a drug dealer in Indiana that he knew. Tuffy was also great at basketball. He just couldn’t leave the streets alone. It’s clear to me he wanted me to be sum’n, so…”
Q: What are you currently working on?
A: “Maann lol I got a lot of shit goin on rn. Shit that’s gon bust me out there aggressively, shit that’s gone make people wish they’d stayed solid by me like I was by them, you feel me? Just dropped a long-awaited music video to one of the leading singles to my latest project. As of yesterday, booked another shoot in ATL as well as studio time for the next project…and i got sum’n for y’all in less than a week. Can’t speak too much on it tho.”
Q: What is your latest release?
A: “My latest release technically is the video I just dropped on the 4th. However, I’d be goofy not to tell y’all that ‘TxffLove’ is out everywhere. Stream on your platform of choice. 9 tracks on that mf but it’s definitely sum’n on there for everyone.”
Q: When is your next release?
A: “I do not have a projected date for it yet as I am puttin my all into this tape and the next ones to come.
If I did have a date, I still wouldn’t tell you. No shot to you, but it’s sum’n in the water in the underground scene right now. People you thought was w/ you, actually competin w/ you. So, since this where we at w/ shit, I’m movin in complete silence…but ‘The Scenic Route’ is in workin progress.”
