Tyler, The Creator is never afraid to share his opinions, and his latest appearance on DJ Drama’s podcast sparked plenty of debate after he revealed the artists and albums that make up his personal Mount Rushmore.
During a conversation with DJ Drama on the Gangsta Grillz podcast, Tyler was asked one of hip-hop’s most popular discussion topics: who belongs on his Mount Rushmore?
After taking a moment to think, Tyler first named some of his biggest overall musical influences. His list included Pharrell Williams, Erykah Badu, Jamiroquai, and Stevie Wonder.
When the discussion shifted specifically to rappers, Tyler expanded his list even further. He highlighted Eminem, André 3000, Pusha T, Jay-Z (Shawn Carter), Lil Wayne (Dwayne Carter), and Pharrell once again, underscoring the producer’s enormous influence on his creative development.
Tyler also shared some of the albums that have had the greatest impact on him throughout his life and career. His selections included:
- In Search Of… by N.E.R.D.
- The Marshall Mathers LP by Eminem
- Hell Hath No Fury by Clipse
- Mama’s Gun by Erykah Badu
- Voodoo by D’Angelo
- Pronounced Jah-Nay by Zhané
As expected, the list immediately sparked discussion among fans. Many were surprised that legendary names such as Tupac Shakur and The Notorious B.I.G. were not prominently featured, considering how often they appear in traditional Mount Rushmore conversations.
However, Tyler’s selections reflect the artists and albums that directly influenced his own musical identity rather than a consensus ranking of the greatest artists ever. His choices also highlight how each generation develops its own perspective on hip-hop history and musical greatness.
Whether fans agree or disagree, Tyler’s list offers a fascinating look into the sounds and creators that helped shape one of the most innovative artists of his generation.
