What’s your name?
I’m Cam Carter. Mac Carter if you’re dyslexic.
Where are you from?
Memphis, Tennessee. It’s a tough place, but it is what it is. It’s where I’m from and it’s a dangerous city full of talent.
When did you start making music?
I used to collect Shel Silverstein books. I was fascinated with rhymes and poetry and how you could speak art. I wrote lyrics since I was like 9 or 10. By the time I was in high school I was writing 200 bar cyphers and songs. I dabbled with some known musicians in the city. Just kind of peeped game and soaked it all in. By the time I recorded my first song, I knew that this is what I was made to do.
Where can we find you mostly, in the studio or in the club?
Studio hands down. I used to club and get lit a lot in college. I’m to the point now where I want to own the club, not dance in it…. I’m too busy trying to shake the world. We’ll deal with all the club shit as it comes.
Who is your childhood hero?
Probably the Pink Power Ranger. She was bad and good at it. Tupac and MJ definitely contributed to my mentality, but that Pink Ranger back then was something serious…
What’s the best way for someone reading this to find you on social media, what’s your main platform?
Spotify, Youtube, Facebook or Instagram. I’m verified on all 4. If you want smoke, tap into my Instagram. I’m most active there. I also appreciate all the love and support I can earn because my goals are pretty ridiculous.
Do you have anything to share with the fans, any hints on new songs or collaborations?
Yes, and I’m very excited for them to come to life and to get them out for everyone to hear. I’m working with MP Beatz on another dope song called “Potions” that has the ever so beautiful Vera Von Monika on it. She’s simply amazing. And we’re both very excited for that one because its very enchanting. I’m also working with my guy from Memphis Muck Sticky. I can’t express enough how authentic and talented this guy is. He really challenged how I conduct my creative process and it all just kind of happened and I owe that all to Muck. We made a song called “A Real Good Day.” I’ve had the concept for years, but like I said. It fell into place pretty fast. I have one with Lil Mop Top called “Boss Moves” and that’s a banger. J Banga did it and everything them guys do is pretty solid. I met this guy from Kansas City while I was in Memphis by the name of KC Nash. That dude impressed me, so I did a couple with him that have a lot of potential. Be on the lookout for “Activist”. Also, I have another with Ray K coming soon called “Fake Sunsets”. I love that song…. Same with “Beautiful Scars.” Kobe Beats did that one and he just certified platinum so huge shoutout to my guy Kobe Beats.
Other than that, MP Beatz and I worked all through the pandemic. I also joined forces with Luchito Carrera on a song called “Good Suit” that’s super outlaw and gangsta. It’s sort of like my ode to Johnny Cash. “Sex Work”, “Angels in Disguise”, “Like Nike”, “Dolce and Movado”, and “Boss Bitch” are also finished. I’m just waiting patiently so certain things come into fruition before I start laying out hit potential songs. I built my house. Painted that joint. And just getting the soil ready to grow all this amazing music. I put a lot into these projects. I’ll drop a couple more singles, then it’s album mode. “Halo Into Hell,” my debut studio album will be coming soon. I have 12 songs out now and a show in December at The Whisky A Go Go in Hollywood, CA. It’s Cam Carter people.
