Richmond, Virginia’s very own Uptown Bup isn’t new to the rap game—he’s been perfecting his craft for over 20 years, writing songs, producing beats, and creating his own lane in hip-hop. From the beginning, music has been a family affair, with his older brothers inspiring him to pick up the mic and put his own stories into sound.
Uptown Bup first introduced the world to his music with J.GUTTA (The Introduction), and since then, he’s been dropping heat consistently. He’s worked with artists like Chef Lou, Yung Breezy, Mal Da Foo, BogBankFrank, Yakboy DZ, and Quonboii, showing his ability to collaborate while keeping his signature style intact. While he taps into multiple genres, hip-hop remains his foundation—a space where he can express his experiences, struggles, and victories.
Fully independent, Uptown Bup is open to the right record or distribution deal, but he’s in no rush. His biggest supporters? His immediate family, who have stood by him through every track, beat, and performance. And while he’s built a solid catalog, he’s nowhere near done. Right now, he’s cooking up a wave of new singles, with his latest release, In A Row, already making noise. But there’s no time to slow down—his next track drops tomorrow, proving his relentless work ethic.
If he could pick one artist to collaborate with, living or dead, Kendrick Lamar is at the top of his list. And when it comes to the tour life, he could see himself hitting the road with Boosie or G Herbo, artists who match his raw energy and real-life storytelling. The biggest crowd he’s performed for so far is around 200 people, but he’s got his sights set on bigger stages, with Africa being a dream destination to perform.
Beyond the music, Uptown Bup is focused on the bigger picture. In five years, he sees himself financially comfortable and happy with life, making music on his own terms. With his dedication and consistency, that vision isn’t far off.
