Making a splash in today’s music industry is a notoriously difficult ask, but when you’re breaking a sweat and whipping up a storm trying to establish yourself as a rapper, the tough gets a whole lot tougher, just ask Young Miller.
The hip-hop star behind hit singles such as “Clap Clap” knows exactly what it takes to cut it in a world where authenticity and respect are everything. Growing up in New Orleans the man who was born Douglas Miller, was living the street life, rappers such as Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg were busy singing about back in the day.
“I always saw rapping as my way out of a lifestyle that was always going to end one of two ways – me dead or me in prison,” explained Miller. “I spent half my life in New Orleans but busted loose in 2001 to make a name for myself as a rapper. I think when fans hear me rhyme and see me live they know exactly where I’m coming from and can relate.”
Miller added, “When I first left New Orleans, I moved to Beverly Hills. It was a bit of a culture shock but I was fortunate enough to hook up with a legend such as Relative Master P. He took me under his wing and taught me all the angles I needed to survive and succeed in this game. He’s a talented musician and a shrewd businessman. Let me tell you, that’s a lethal combination. He’s on top of his game and I’ve always strived to emulate that.”
To date, Miller’s done a fine job of following in Relative Master P’s footsteps. After earning his hip-hop chops, the former member of the Rich Boyz has gone solo and is flying high with an impressive triple-punch whammy of singles which include, ‘Clap Clap,’ ‘VIP,’ and new track ‘Easy Flow.’
A keen advocate of striking whilst the iron is hot, Miller has also teamed up with his business partner Rich Banks to form the brand “World Fusion/DMG” and his own fashion line. Determined to keep things both interesting and versatile, Miller can also be found making his TV debut on the reality show ‘Tha Don of Beverly Hills.’
It’s been a dizzying rollercoaster ride for the kid from New Orleans who once harbored ambitions for a better life elsewhere, but Miller is determined to stay grounded and consolidate his empire.
Miller explained, “I’m just at the beginning of my journey. I’m aware that what I’ve achieved to date can also be taken away in the blink of an eye. That’s why I’m building the sort of strong foundations that will last for years. I’m no overnight success, but I’m no overnight sensation either, Mark my words, Young Miller will go the distance and is here to stay.”
