Brooklyn’s own Mythodical Joe, born Dante Dumas, carries a sound that’s both nostalgic and refreshing, a deep, slightly raspy voice that cuts through beats and commands attention. His music speaks to the soul of hip hop, grounded in authenticity and storytelling.
Q: What are some of your biggest musical influences?
Mythodical Joe: I grew up inspired by the greats — Jay-Z, DMX, Nas, Eminem, Method Man, Joe Budden, Joell Ortiz, and Outkast. They shaped how I approach lyricism and delivery.
Q: How would you describe your style and sound?
My sound is old school hip hop with a modern twist. I’ve got a deep, recognizable voice and I focus on lyrics that make people think, not just nod their heads.
Q: Tell us about your creative process.
I write mostly on my couch, in my car, or late at night in bed when everything’s quiet. That’s when ideas flow. I’ll play a beat, let it move me, and the words just start coming. Sometimes I finish a song in one sitting, other times I have to step away and come back fresh.
Q: What inspired your latest project, “The Collective”?
“The Collective” was a bridge project between albums, six tracks, six artists from across the U.S., each bringing a different vibe. The single “Like This” with Sativa is all about letting go and having fun.
Q: How do you stay authentic and motivated?
I’m just an average Joe who makes music about real life. My songs come from experience, love, loss, mistakes, lessons. That’s what keeps me going.
Q: Any long term goals?
I want to release three more albums, work with legends like Jadakiss and Eminem, go on a world tour, win a Grammy, and see my music featured in films.
Q: What do you want listeners to take away from your music?
I want them to feel something, to really listen, learn, and remember. That’s the essence of Mythodical Joe.
