South Florida has always had a sound of its own raw, melodic, emotional, and rooted in real life. How It Goes is both the name of my new single and a reflection of the journey that brought me here. This piece is an introduction to who I am, where I’m from, and why my voice represents something new coming out of Broward County.
My name is Chiko Black, and I’m a Black and Puerto Rican artist from South Florida. I make melodic hip-hop shaped by my culture, my environment, and the pressure that comes with growing up in Broward. The music I create is grounded in real experience the ambition, the grind, the lessons, and the reality of chasing something bigger than where you started.
My journey started early, but 2024 marked a real turning point. That year, I released “Oh Yeah,” a record that didn’t just introduce my sound it opened doors. The song went on to land my first video-game placement in GTA 6, set to premiere in 2026. For me, that moment was proof that staying locked in, even when the road isn’t clear, can lead to opportunities bigger than you imagine.
“How It Goes” is the next chapter. Set for release in 2026, the song captures what I’ve experienced growing up in South Florida the pressure, the survival mode, the motivation, and the constant push to elevate. It’s not a glamorized version of the story. It’s honest. The record reflects how life really unfolds where I’m from, without sugarcoating or over-explaining. It’s melodic, dark at times, and driven by emotion.
Beyond the single, 2026 represents a larger vision. Along with “How It Goes,” I’m preparing to release my first EP, continuing to build a catalog that truly represents Broward talent. Every record I put out is intentional. I’m not chasing trends I’m establishing a sound that speaks for my city and my generation.

The message I want readers to take away is simple: there is a new sound coming out of South Florida. One that reflects today’s reality while still respecting the culture that built it. I’m promoting myself not just as an artist, but as an example of consistency and belief. I don’t take breaks from my dreams, and I know there are people from my city and my generation watching, hoping to see what’s possible.
If my journey can motivate someone else to stay locked in on their own dream, then this music is doing its job.
