A lot of artists get caught up refreshing their stats. Streams, followers, monthly listeners. Watching the numbers move up and down like it’s a scoreboard.
Boston artist Mets looks at it differently.
The 19 year old independent rapper, born Joey Metrano, has been building his career with a mindset that many artists don’t develop until much later. Instead of chasing quick results, he focuses on the work itself.
When Mets first started putting music out, progress didn’t move fast. Monthly listeners would sit still for weeks. Engagement would barely change. At the same time, people he once considered friends slowly disappeared as he started taking music more seriously.
But instead of letting that discourage him, it actually shaped the way he approaches the industry.
He watched what happens when artists panic over numbers. Rushed mixtapes, forced singles, and music that feels like it’s made just to stay relevant for a moment. Mets made a decision early on that he didn’t want to fall into that cycle.
His focus became simple. Improve the craft every day.
For Mets, the goal isn’t just attention. It’s impact. Much of his music pulls from real experiences in his life and the struggles around him. The idea is that if someone listens to a song and feels like they’re not alone anymore, then the music already did its job.
That perspective has helped him stay patient while building momentum.
The Boston artist has steadily maintained between 5,000 and 10,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, a sign that his audience is growing organically while he continues refining his sound.
Now with the recent release of “Drake Maye Freestyle” featuring KillBunk, Mets is continuing that same approach. Focus on the music, stay consistent, and let the rest build naturally.
Because for him, this was never about a quick moment.
It’s about the long run.
