GloRilla Donates $25K to Alma Mater, Melrose High, Creating the Gloria H. Woods Media Center

GloRilla is proving that true success comes from giving back. On December 18, the Memphis rapper returned to her alma mater, Melrose High School in the Orange Mound neighborhood, with a $25,000 donation. Her contribution will fund the creation of the Gloria H. Woods Media Center, a cutting-edge facility named after her birth name. This heartfelt tribute is a full-circle moment for the star, who once walked the same halls as the students she now inspires.

The $25,000 donation will support several transformative projects for the school. A significant portion will go toward redesigning the library into a collaborative space featuring modern, comfortable seating and allergen-free carpets. GloRilla also plans to upgrade learning software, equipping students with cutting-edge tools for research and productivity.

During her visit, GloRilla reflected on her time as a student and the importance of giving back to her community. “To be able to create something I wished for growing up warms my heart,” she said to an audience of students who welcomed the announcement as an early Christmas gift.

Her generosity extends beyond infrastructure. Part of the donation will launch the GloRilla Mentorship Program, offering personal development opportunities like field trips and live video chats with the rapper herself. In addition, $2,500 will go to the Melrose Clothes Closet, providing students in need with essentials like toiletries and clothing. Another $2,500 will bolster the school’s Office of Family Engagement, fostering stronger connections between families and the school community.

The Gloria H. Woods Media Center is set to open next summer, representing hope and opportunity for Melrose students. For many of them, GloRilla is more than just a music star—she’s living proof that dreams can be achieved with hard work and determination.

GloRilla’s impact extends far beyond her philanthropy. She received two Grammy nominations in 2024 for Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance, following her first nomination in 2023 for her breakout single, “F.N.F. (Let’s Go).” Now, her legacy includes inspiring future generations to dream big and give back.
