Kendrick Lamar may be keeping a low profile after wrapping up his massive Grand National world tour, but his legacy continues to grow louder with time. Even if K.Dot never released another album, his catalog would still perform as if it dropped yesterday. Case in point: his 2012 classic good kid, m.A.A.d city has officially surpassed 10 million album-equivalent units sold in the United States.
According to Hip Hop All Day, the milestone makes the album eligible for Diamond certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Kendrick’s next closest project is 2017’s DAMN., which currently sits at over 9 million album-equivalent units sold.
Interestingly, Kendrick has several albums and songs that are eligible for additional certifications but have yet to be formally updated. Whether that’s due to timing, strategy, or simply indifference to accolades, the numbers speak for themselves.
What makes the achievement even more impressive is the album’s age. good kid, m.A.A.d city will turn 14 years old later in 2026, yet it continues to resonate with listeners today. The era’s staying power was evident as recently as November, when a leaked track from that period surfaced and drew major attention for sampling Radiohead’s “Everything In Its Right Place.”
While DAMN. remains Kendrick’s highest-selling album by traditional first-week and pure sales standards, good kid, m.A.A.d city has quietly surpassed it in long-term impact. Thanks to years of consistent streaming and cultural relevance, the album’s longevity has elevated it beyond its original commercial run.
Naturally, fans are still asking the big question: Is Kendrick Lamar dropping another album? His appearance at Top Dawg Entertainment’s Christmas event fueled speculation, though it may have simply been hopeful interpretation rather than a concrete hint.
Regardless of what comes next, good kid, m.A.A.d city continues to stand tall—not just as a commercial triumph, but as one of the most influential and beloved albums of the millennium.
