Kendrick Lamar continues to solidify his legacy as one of hip-hop’s greatest performers. Fresh off his Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show, the Compton rapper has just scored his second Emmy award, this time for Outstanding Music Direction, alongside musical director Tony Russell.
The show, held at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, became the most-watched Super Bowl halftime performance ever, drawing a staggering 133.5 million viewers—edging out Michael Jackson’s iconic 1993 performance by a hair. Fans were treated to a mix of Kendrick’s biggest hits, including Humble, DNA, and Euphoria, along with a fiery live rendition of his Drake diss track Not Like Us, a moment that sparked headlines in the music world.
Kendrick’s halftime extravaganza didn’t just earn him one award—it also racked up nominations for Choreography (Variety/Reality), Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special, and Outstanding Variety Special (Live). Clearly, the rapper’s talent extends far beyond the mic, proving he’s just as formidable behind the scenes as he is on stage.
This marks Kendrick’s second Emmy win. His first came in 2022 for his role in the Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show, where he shared the stage with legends like Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, and 50 Cent. That performance took home the Emmy for Outstanding Variety Special (Live) alongside musical director Adam Blackstone.
But Kendrick isn’t stopping at awards. He’s also dominating the charts—he’s currently the only rapper in 2025 to have a song on the Billboard Hot 100 every single week, thanks to hits like Luther featuring SZA, TV Off, Peekaboo, and Not Like Us.
From setting viewership records to earning Emmy gold and consistently charting hits, Kendrick Lamar is showing that he’s not just a rapper—he’s a cultural phenomenon. If this is any indication, the King of Compton is only just getting started.
